What is Momentum?

Momentum is a national student-led investment committee programme which provides access to world class advice, connections, and investment opportunities to students and start-ups across New Zealand.

Our services include connecting technology and project teams with strategic management, top-tier advice, global connections and helping to build pathways efficient access to capital.

We believe today’s students have the passion and urgency to innovate in ways that will positively impact on their own and future generations.

Who sits on the Momentum Committees?

We have Momentum Committees on every major New Zealand University campus. They are diverse groups spanning multiple sectors, from experienced chairs to emerging innovators, to seasoned investors and entrepreneurs. And students – ensuring our line of sight is always forward.

What Does a Commercialisation Navigator Do?

A Commercialisation Navigator helps innovators who are just starting out by understanding their needs, challenges, and uncertainties. Our role is to connect you with the right expertise, resources, or networks to keep your entrepreneurial journey moving forward.

We guide you through the process of preparing to present to our committees, carefully curate committee members based on your project’s stage and focus area, and ensure they are fully informed about the support you need. Afterward, we provide clear guidance by walking you through the committee’s recommendations, ensuring you’re ready to take your next steps.

Where does Momentum come from?

Momentum is a partner in the government's Commercialisation Partner Network, a programme designed to increase commercial outcomes from publicly funded research. Momentum provides facilitated access to commercialisation resources, networks and expertise to directly increase the quantum and quality of commercial opportunities arising in New Zealand.

The Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment has accredited the Momentum Programme investment committees to make formal investment decisions for the PreSeed Accelerator Fund
